THEATER

In this durational performance installation, the audience is invited into a mad “Pool Party” in progress. In a room where blue projections of water ripple on the walls, party decorations surround a giant inflatable pool filled with ball-pit balls and inflatables. Inside the pool are two bathing-suit clad “children” celebrating as if it is their last day on earth–and it is. Their Nanny curates the karaoke play-list while playing life-guard as the “children” play frenetic games and stretch the limits of their bodies and imaginations. This pool is a place of fun, leisure, community, danger and holy baptism.
Inspired by the works of David Hockney, “Penelope” by Enda Walsh, “The Bewitchin' Pool” episode of “The Twilight Zone,” “The Swimmer” by John Cheever, the music of Kylie Minogue, and more, this piece examines the power and privilege of pool access.
